UNICEF - RIGHTS RESPECTING SCHOOLS - GOLD AWARD

We are absolutely thrilled to share a momentous milestone with our entire school community! Rebecca Cheetham Nursery School and Children's Centre has officially been awarded the UNICEF UK Rights Respecting Schools Gold Award . This is the highest level of accreditation granted by UNICEF UK, recognising a profound, embedded commitment to children’s rights, safety, and well-being across every facet of our school life.

What is the Gold Award and Why Does It Matter?

Achieving Gold status means that our school does not just teach children about their rights—we live them every single day. The accreditation report highlighted that children’s rights thoroughly underpin our vision, values, and daily curriculum.

For our families, this award is a guarantee that your children are learning in an environment founded on dignity, equity, and mutual respect. It proves that our leadership and staff consistently go above and beyond to prioritise the individual social, emotional, and physical needs of every child.

The Incredible Contributions of Our Children

Our wonderful children were the true stars of this achievement. The UNICEF assessors spent time with our pupil-led Rights Champion Steering Group, who spoke confidently about their rights and how they shape their experiences in the nursery.

During the visit, our children demonstrated their brilliant critical thinking skills during our bespoke Philosophy for Children (P4C) sessions, using our crochet mascot, "Ruby the Rights Robot," to discuss big ideas like fairness and protection. The inspectors were deeply moved by our children's active citizenship, noting how deeply our three and four-year-olds care for others—whether participating in local litter-picking or advocating to collect warm coats and food bank donations for families in need.

Transforming Our Community Together

This award belongs to our whole community. The report highly praised our strong partnerships with parents and our active outreach work, noting that our staff passionately advocate for the right to play both locally and across London.

As we celebrate this gold standard, we look forward to carrying this momentum into our next exciting venture: our upcoming "Forest Friends" outdoor project, where our children will continue to exercise their right to a safe environment, independent play, and active global citizenship.

Thank you to our inspiring children, dedicated staff, supportive governors, and amazing parents for making Rebecca Cheetham a golden place to learn and grow!
