Rebecca Cheetham Nursery School Wins OMEP-UK Bronze Award for Sustainable Citizenship!
We are thrilled to announce that Rebecca Cheetham Nursery School and Children's Centre has been officially recognised for its commitment to a greener future. We have successfully achieved the OMEP-UK Education for Sustainable Citizenship (ESC) Bronze Award, a major milestone in supporting sustainable citizenship within early years education.
The OMEP-UK ESC Award Accreditation Panel reviewed our setting’s work and was particularly impressed by several key initiatives that highlight our dedication to our children, our community, and the environment.
- Empowering Children’s Voices: The panel highly valued our use of 'floor books' and picture story books to capture and celebrate the voices and ideas of our students.
- Strong Parent Partnerships: Our recent initiative requesting families to help grow our multilingual book collection was noted as a standout example of how we work together with our nursery families.
- Exemplary Practice: The award letter specifically praised our Forest and garden school experiences, our winter coat initiative, and the care our children show for animals within the nursery as examples of exemplary practice.
What is the OMEP-UK ESC Award? This award is granted by OMEP-UK, a UNESCO-aligned accreditation body. It recognizes early years settings that go above and beyond in teaching children about sustainability and active citizenship. Our success in this program also grants us the right to display the International 'Green School' badge alongside our new OMEP-UK Bronze logo.
OMEP-UK extended their congratulations to everyone who contributed to this "inspiring work". While we celebrate this achievement, we are already looking ahead to the challenges and opportunities of the Silver level award!
