School of Family - MATHS Event

Our School Of Family - Maths event was a fantastic opportunity to welcome our families into the provision and to dispel some myths about Maths.
On the 1st of December 2022, we were excited to welcome our families onto site to learn about how we approach Maths in the Early Years curriculum and to invite them to spend some time in the provision with their children to put some of their newly found maths skills to practice.
Farhana started the session with a workshop which attempted to dispel some myths around maths and show that maths is more than just being able to count; building strategies around maths that are more meaningful and putting things into an everyday context. An example could be to ask your child to hand you three carrots when preparing the evening meal.
After the workshop, parents/carers were invited to see their children and the provision in action and partake in some of the maths activities that were on offer for them. This helped to reinforce some of the theoretical ideas that were presented in the workshop in a practical way.
Feedback for the session was overwhelmingly full of praise:
"Today was so enjoyable to see her in the classroom and being able to join in on what she does there. It was good to see all the different ways to introduce maths. Would like more days like this."
"I liked that we had a talk about maths first and that the nursery provided activities to do at home. it is so lovely that you do days like this and that as parents we get to see what the nursery do and we can all work together to make learning fun."
We look forward to welcoming you once again at our next School of Family event.
